Petroio

Petroio (22 km), although of Etruscan origin the town’s name probably derives from the Latin “Praetorium”. Ancient documents to be found in the Cathedral Archives in Arezzo and the State Archives in Siena all make reference to the town as “Castro Pretorio”.
Situated on a limestone and clay hill 481 meters above sea level, the town’s circular plan is typically mediaeval.
